Basic concepts and terminology
The Photoshop is a tool for photograph retouching, enhancing and will give you flexible features to produce stunning images which can be put in Web pages.
Before going further it is necessarily for us to understand that what is graphics? There are two main types of computer graphics- vector and raster images.
Vector images, such as those created in Adobe Illustrator, are made up of mathematically defined lines and curves called vectors.
Raster images, such as those created in Adobe Photoshop, consist of a grid, or raster, of small squares, and know as pixels.
Image resolution refers to the spacing of pixels in the images and is measured in pixels per inch(ppi). If an image has a resolution of 72 ppi, this will have 5184 pixels in a square inch.
Pixel depth(bit resolution) is a measurement of the number of bits of stored information per pixel. Bit resolution determines how much color information is available for each pixel. Greater pixel depth means more available colours and more accurate color representation in the digital image. E.g. A pixel with a bit depth of 8 has 2**8, or 256 possible values(colours); and a pixel with a bit depth of 24 has 2**24 or 16 million, possible values (colours).
Monitor resolution defines the number of dots or pixels per unit length of output. It is measured in dots per inch (dpi). The device resolution for a Macintosh monitor is typically 72 dpi.
Screen frequency, also known as screen ruling, refers to the number of halftone cells per inch in the halftone screen used to print grayscale image or colour separation. Screen frequency is measured in lines per inch.
Output resolution refers to the number of dots per inch (dpi) that output device, such as a laser printer reduces.
Image creation, duplication and save
Open existing images in CD-ROM or harddisk, use File->Open.
Creating a new image, choose File->New to bring up New dialog box. If the Clipboard contains an image, the Width, Height and Resolution option boxes shows the size and resolution of that image.

you can set image rasulation acording to your wish.
So we start from open create an image and duplicate this image today.
1.we will open an existing file from disc

now we will open another image which we want to merg or duplicate
select from select Icon for selecting the image and copy this image from edit box

and paste it on the first image
but make sure
you have to select image first,

you can resise your image if you want by transfor and then scale functions from Edit ,

Re: Basic concepts and terminology
now we need to merg these two images.
in adobeshop in right corner you can see litle windows ,these windown give you some important function to help you in graphics. like window layers.
thic function tells you that how many images you applied on base image, the first image which you opened called base image or Backgroung and all other images which you duplicate or paste called layers.
here is an important thing
you have to remember is that you have to select the layer first on which you want to apply any function or task.
you can select or unselect alayer to click on eye on layer window.this eye indicates layer visibility.

Now with blending options you can give graphics effects to your image, for example if on secong layer we apply linear Burn Blending effect then you can see the results below

Next lecture we will try to understand about more blending effects,
Now you can save your image by save function or save as function in *PSD* formate or *JPEG* etc.

if any body have any problem or difficulty then you can ask me.
See you soon with more details
