4 Natural Home Remedies For Treating Sunburn

Almost all of us experience the effects of sunburn whether heavy or light at some time or the other in our day to day life particularly during summer. The best way to protect our skin is to apply a sun block before going in the sun but in case of heavy burns natural home remedies help a lot in soothing the skin. Given below are the natural remedies that prove to be effective in treating sunburn.

Aloe Vera: Aloe Vera is the most common remedy for sunburn. It soothes the skin and helps to aid the healing process. As and when required, apply aloe Vera to the affected area. A large number of over the counter aloe Vera creams are available but it is better to apply fresh gel extracted from the leaf. In case you tend to buy an over the counter cream or lotion, just check that it contains a high concentration of aloe Vera extract.

Cool Milk Compresses: Milk is known to have a soothing effect on the area affected with sunburn due to its high content of lactic acid and fat. After soaking a soft cloth or cotton wool in cool whole milk, dab it gently over the burned skin for around fifteen minutes and thereafter rinse with cold water. It is essential to use whole milk for this treatment because only whole milk contains a high amount of fat.

Water: Essential body salts and water is lost when the skin gets exposed to harsh rays of the sun which results into dehydration. Due to this the body starts to reabsorb fluid from the blood and other body tissues. To prevent the ill effects of dehydration, increase your fluid intake to ensure you adequately re-hydrate your body for optimum recovery and health.

Cool sugarless tea: Tea contains an ingredient called tannin, which is beneficial in relieving and soothing some of the discomfort caused due to skin burn. After brewing a big pot of tea, and allowing it to cool completely, slosh the affected areas with a soft sponge or washcloth. After filling a spray bottle with tea and vinegar it can also be directly sprayed onto the skin. Used cool teabags are also very beneficial and don’t throw them away. These tea bags are very good for the sensitive skin around the eyes and you can place them on sensitive areas of the skin to obtain relief from dullness and fatigue.

And last but not the least it is better to avoid sunburn whenever possible in order to protect the skin from the harmful ill effects, which in extreme circumstances may also lead to skin cancer. Prevention is better than cure and this should always be considered the best treatment for sunburn that will assist in ensuring your optimum long-term health and vitality!

Thus we can say that natural home remedies help a lot in providing a quick relief from the after effects of sun burn and soothe the skin gently without causing any harm.
